Anwar launches free e-tuition

PKR candidate highlights importance of education with portal

PORT DICKSON: Free online tuition for all subjects will be made available to all students from Year One to Form Five here, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The by-election candidate, who launched the e-tuition portal as part of his campaign trail, hoped that students would benefit from it.

The portal www.pdtuition.com is a collective initiative by parents-teachers associations of several schools here, as well as some non-governmental organisations.

It’s for students from national, Chinese and Tamil schools.

Anwar, who was a former teacher, said it was important for students to have an education while at the same time, retain their values and culture.

Speaking from his own experience as the former education minister, Anwar said it was one of the most fulfilling Cabinet portfolios he had held.

“It was a very pleasant experience for me,” he said at the launch yesterday.

Anwar also thanked and honoured his former teachers, adding that the love and values they imparted would not be forgotten.

One such teacher was Tan Sri Dr Abdul Rahman Arshad of the Malay College Kuala Kangsar, who was present at the event.

“He (Dr Abdul Rahman) was very strict but his love for his students was extraordinary,” said Anwar.

Well-known educator Sunny Yee, who initiated the online tuition plan, said the project would help reduce the financial burden of parents.

“It can cost a few hundred ringgit every month just to pay for tuition fees.

“This does not include the time and transportation to the tuition centres.

“It will cause a dent to their budget but this online tuition will make it easier for all students in Port Dickson to be coached from the homes,” he said, adding that the e-tuition would cover all subjects.

Separately, AirAsia Group chief executive officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes said he was thrilled to see Port Dickson being in the limelight.

“We’ve been advocates in the development of this raw diamond since years ago.

“Its vicinity to KLIA makes it a potential to be the Jumeirah Beach (Dubai) of Malaysia, particularly for transiting passengers.

“Convention centres, shopping malls and resorts are just some of the projects that we believe can take Port Dickson to new heights,” said Fernandes on his LinkedIn post.
