Come rain or shine, PAS candidate is still on the go

-

PORT DICKSON: Despite the ongoing wet and unpredictable weather in this popular beachside town, PAS by-election candidate Lt-Col (Rtd) Mohd Nazari Mokhtar is not one to wait for the storm to abate.

Instead, he shows no sign of slowing down and plans to step up his campaigning rounds ahead of polling day on Oct 13.

The former air force officer said he was usually up at 5.30am to visit mosques, surau and other public areas such as markets around the Teluk Kemang area.

“Some might think that since we are experiencing bad weather, campaigning should be halted. For me, it is a blessing.

“If it is too hot, I may fall sick but with breezy weather, I will have more endurance,” he said at the Teluk Kemang market here.

The 57-year-old said his message to voters was simple – vote in PAS to strengthen the opposition bloc in the Dewan Rakyat.

“Alhamdullilah, our programmes have run smoothly so far. Whether we like it or not, PAS has always been on the opposition bench and now, Umno is on the same side.

“We need a strong voice as the opposition. If we are weak, the government will not take us seriously. If given the mandate, I will act as an effective opposition,” he pledged.

Mohd Nazari said most of the locals he met on his rounds urged him to voice out issues such as the high cost of living.

Many of them complained that petrol prices remained high, resulting in the cost of basic items not coming down, he said.

Mohd Nazari said the government should do more to monitor the prices of such items, adding: “My mission is to raise such issues and protect the welfare of the people.”

He later visited patients at Port Dickson Hospital before going to Teluk Kemang beach to meet voters and distribute leaflets on his candidacy.
