Bowler Azrin aims for a double in Asian Para Games
KUALA LUMPUR: Para athlete Mohd Azrin Rahim (pic) is setting the bar high in his Asian Para Games outing in Indonesia.
The TPB9 (limb disability) bowler is eyeing to bring back home at least two gold medals from the Games.
Azrin is still confident of his abilities following last year’s haul of two golds and one silver at the Kuala Lumpur Asean Para Games last year.
The 33-year-old won the gold in the mixed TBP9 doubles and mixed TBP8-TBP9-TBP10 trios and a silver in the mixed TBP9 singles.
Azrin first made an impact at the 2016 Hong Kong Open where he won the singles and all events golds, as well as a second place finish in the doubles and trios events.
“That (Hong Kong Open) has so far been my biggest accomplishment because it proved that I could compete with some of the best bowlers in Asia like the South Koreans,” said Azrin.
“And since then I have improved a lot, so I feel confident in myself and in my partners that we can do well in Indonesia.”
It will be Azrin’s first time at the Games and he wants to add more medals to his achievements.
“I want to win this, but not just for myself, for my friends, family and for the name of the country.
“It is what drives me everyday to training and to give my best since I suffered from disability with one of my legs since 13 years ago,” he said.
Azrin was riding his motorcycle when he met an accident with a car that resulted in his current disability.
“I was already a state athlete in football before my accident but after it happened I was still passionate about sports and bowling was one of the sports I could take up after my injury,” added Azrin.
