Cancer-stricken kids dream of island holiday
BUTTERWORTH: Two boys diagnosed with cancer have a simple wish – a holiday in Langkawi, Kedah.
The Friends of Childhood Cancer Association Northern Region is appealing to donors to help get them to their dream destination.
Muhamad Danish Iskandar, 16, was diagnosed with PEComa (a rare form of cancer) in January, while Mohd Haziq Asyriffan Abd Rahman, 10, has been suffering from leukaemia since April.
They are among 360 children registered with the association.
Association president Maznah Tayib said a fundraising project had been launched to raise RM5,000 for the two boys.
“We need RM2,500 for each child, who will be accompanied by their parents on a 3D/2N trip to Langkawi.
“The association is unable to bear the expenses as it has financial constrains running the organisation.
“Every month, new cancer cases are diagnosed in Perlis, Kedah, Penang and Perak. As such, we need money for the association,” she said at a press conference in Seberang Jaya here on Thursday.
Maznah said many of the children had leukaemia, bone cancer and brain tumours.
Muhamad Danish’s father Azmin Abdul Aziz, 44, said his son underwent surgery in May to remove the cancer cells, but a subsequent scan showed that the cancer had spread to other parts of the body.
Mohd Haziq’s dad Abdul Rahman Mat Desa, 36, said his son became unwell at age five and recovered later. But he became ill again in April this year.
