Journalists of Star Media Group win big
Hard work recognised at Health Media Awards 2018
PETALING JAYA: Star Media Group bagged prizes in various categories for this year’s Health Media Awards 2018, including Best Photograph and Best Social Media.
This year’s event saw 265 media practitioners competing in 19 main categories as well as three “Blue Ribbon” awards for highlighting the dangers of smoking.
The R.AGE team comprising Samantha Chow, Husna Ab Rahman, Natalia Hussain, Claire Anthony and Vaneesha Krishnasamy won Best Social Media for their sex education campaign, titled “Sex Education”.
Art Chen, who shot Thai paralympic swimmer Pattra Krangphanit gliding through the water during the women’s 100m breastroke at the Asean Para Games 2017, won Best Photo Award.
Writer Christina Chin scooped up second place in the Blue Ribbon Awards for her work titled “Towards a Smokefree generation”.
Assistant News Editor Loh Foon Fong’s coverage on financial assistance for Hepatitis C patients won Consolation Prize in the Print Media and News Portal (English Language) category.
In his speech, Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the awards were an initiative by its Education Division to commemorate the media’s contributions in covering health issues and the ministry.
“The ministry’s duties are based on the delivery of services patterned after incentives, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation that is efficient, effective and appropriate for each level, including promoting healthy habits.
“In this context, communication is much needed to ensure information awareness and continued disease prevention for citizens,” said Dr Dzulkefly.
