Stevie lodges police report against Anwar

PORT DICKSON: Independent Stevie Chan Keng Leong (pic) upped the ante in the hotly contested by-election here by lodging a police report against front-runner Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

In the report, he urged the authorities to investigate, citing the PKR president-elect for alleged electoral bribery offences.

Chan was referring to several projects announced by Anwar during his election campaign, which included a five-star resort, a flight school and an education pro- gramme for school students.

“In my opinion, this is a clear violation of the law. This is almost bribery, something like that,” he told reporters when met outside the Port Dickson police district headquarters yesterday.

Chan left quickly before reporters could ask him to elaborate. His aides said he was rushing to another event.

In a press statement later, Chan said he was referring to the www.pdtuition.com portal that Anwar launched last week.

The portal is a collective initiative by parent-teacher associations from various schools here, as well as some non-governmental organisations.

“By launching the portal, he (Anwar) may have committed an offence under Section 10(a) and (b) of the Electoral Offences Act 1954.

“I made this police report because I see the culture of giving gifts and making promises that have tainted our election process for so many years.

“We must stand firm to ensure that the New Malaysia remains clean and free from the old politics,” he said.

Separately, Anwar, when met by reporters at a luncheon hosted by small business owners, explained that these were initiatives by the private sector and not government initiated.
