Azis: Study to improve police welfare under way
KOTA KINABALU: Ways to improve the welfare and work environment of policemen are under consideration, said Deputy Home Minister Datuk Azis Jamman.
“We are now accessing building needs, workers’ quarters, logistics and enhancing requirements to further improve the welfare of our police personnel.
“The development of the force in various aspects is important to ensure security in the state,” Azis said during a visit to the Sabah police headquarters in Kepayan.
He added that apart from the police, the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom), detention centres and related issues such as the upgrading of the Bum-Bum Island police station were being looked at.
“As for suggestions to hand over the management of the detention centres to the Immigration Department, we have yet to decide but are keeping an open mind,” said Azis.
On the construction of the new Kota Kinabalu police building, he said work was ahead of schedule.
Aziz also said the needs of police and security forces in other states would be looked into.
“We don’t know the amount needed, which is why we need to go to the ground first,” he added.
