Water supply in S’gor restored today
Air Selangor lauded for its quick repair works
PUCHONG: All those affected by the water cuts in Petaling, Hulu Langat, Sepang and Kuala Langat are breathing a sigh of relief that their supply will be restored today.
Bracing themselves for a threeday water shortage, residents had started storing water over the weekend in preparation for dry taps.
However, Air Selangor is ahead of schedule and water is expected to be restored in stages beginning 9am today, said Selangor state Public Amenities, Modernisation of Agriculture and Agrobased Industry committee chairman Izham Hashim yesterday.
Gopinath Suppiah from USJ 6 said he was delighted to read the announcement by Izham on Star Online.
“Overall thumbs up if water resumes today.
“I think they (Air Selangor) are managing expectations, by under promising and over delivering,” he added.
Gopinath said he had stored two large tubs in his bathroom believing it would be adequate for his small family.
He also said the early notification had come in handy for them.
The USJ 3/4 Rukun Tetangga (KRT) meanwhile said this time they were well prepared for the water cut. Its chairman Tan Yeng Yap said he was glad the water would resume today.
His KRT was well prepared for the scheduled water disruption with the help of Air Selangor and the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ).
“Air Selangor was very systematic and is well organised this time. They even went around distributing drinking water,” he said.
Tan said the KRT had blasted out information on the water cuts, numbers to call in case residents ran out of water and even prepared 20 water barrels to assist the elderly.
Some residents had also began harvesting rainwater earlier to cope with the shortage, he added.
USJ is just one of the many areas affected by the water cut caused by works at the Semenyih Water Treatment Plant.
Over one million people from 342,000 households and business premises in Petaling, Hulu Langat, Sepang and Kuala Langat were affected by the cut that began at 9am yesterday.
Izham said the works was to facilitate the replacement of the Bulk Supply Rate (BSR) to help reduce nonrevenue
water (NRW).
He added that the plant would resume operations at 9pm yesterday and water should be restored completely by 3pm today.
He said areas located on higher grounds and at the end of the water supply chain may get the water later.
