Former DPM to be quizzed yet again over alleged misuse of funds
PUTRAJAYA: After over 24 hours of interrogation, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will return again to the Malaysian AntiCorruption Commission (MACC) for questioning.
Today, the former deputy prime minister will be quizzed for the fourth day on the Yayasan Akal Budi case over alleged misappropriation of funds.
Dr Ahmad Zahid spent over nine hours yesterday with MACC investigators, emerging from the headquarters at 6.15pm.
“I would like to thank my media friends for patiently waiting for me, from morning till evening, despite the rain,” he said in his usual jovial demeanour when he came out.
He then confirmed to reporters that he would be returning again today for another round of questioning.
His daughter Datuk Nurulhidayah also came and waited at the headquarters as a show of support for him.
At one point, Nurulhidayah was spotted at the foyer, causing photographers to scramble to take her photo – thinking that she was leaving the place.
It turned out that she was only heading to the building’s surau for afternoon prayers.
She smiled at reporters and also took photos of the press horde waiting outside, which she then posted on her Instagram.
“Personally, I feel very touched looking at the media’s determination in carrying out their duty.
“It was raining heavily, but they still did not leave as they want to ‘scoop’ and get the best photos. I am very impressed with them,” she said on Instagram.
Nurulhidayah was also questioned by MACC on Wednesday on the same case.
This is the second time this week that Dr Ahmad Zahid had been summoned by the graft busters over the Yayasan Akal Budi case, a family run foundation of which he is chairman.
On Wednesday, he spent eight hours being questioned.
Dr Ahmad Zahid was first questioned on the issue on July 3.
He was asked then to explain claims that RM800,000 belonging to the foundation was used to pay off credit card bills.
The foundation was set up to receive and administer funds to help the poor as well as provide Islamic education.
