UK chef’s recipe raises a stink
Netizens slam celeb’s version of Hainanese chicken rice
THE use of honey and lime in a British celebrity chef’s recipe for Hainanese chicken rice has scandalised many Asian netizens.
“This is not Hainanese chicken rice. Ex-actress with no palate to speak of, please stay well away from the food of my people and stick to your gloopy mush,” said a Facebook posting by Jules K. Yim, a Singaporean living in Britain.
Nanyang Siang Pau reported that Yim was reading a magazine and chanced upon the recipe by celebrity chef and actress Lisa Faulkner for what was termed “the classic Singaporean dish”.
Another netizen asked why there no mention of sesame oil, ginger and garlic.
Faulker appeared in the soap opera EastEnders in 2017. She won the Celebrity Masterchef competition in 2010.

Sin Chew Daily reported that the fan from London, known as Oli London, reconstructed his nose and jawline and added lip fillers.
“I am not exactly changing my race, I just want to look as perfect as Jimin,” he said.

The report, narrated by a woman speaking in Hokkien, warned people to be careful when eating bananas.
She claimed that her friend’s mother and worker went to buy some bananas at a shop, but the worker’s tongue was pierced by a needle embedded in the fruit.
“Luckily, it was not too serious and the doctor managed to extract the needle,” the narrator said.
But some traders said the report was a hoax to affect the brisk sales of bananas during the ongoing Nine Emperor Gods Festival.
