Senior citizen crushed to death by trailer

A SENIOR citizen was crushed by a trailer transporti­ng chemicals at the 156km mark of Jalan KuantanKua­la Terengganu near the Jakar Industrial Area traffic light junction, Kosmo! reported.

In the 7.55am incident on Wednesday, the body of Mamat Jumaat, 78, was found stuck in between the tyres of the trailer.

Kemaman district police chief Supt Mohd Said Ibrahim said Mamat was on his way to Chukai from Kuantan on a motorcycle when the trailer struck him from behind. The impact caused him to be crushed and dragged for a few metres.

Fire and Rescue Department personnel took 10 minutes to remove the body from under the trailer.

> The daily also reported that the supervisor of a bakery in Kota Baru was pistol-whipped by a robber after refusing to hand him money.

According to the manager’s coworker Eri Theresia Sae, 29, the man dashed into the bakery in Jalan Hamzah with his mouth covered and demanded money.

“The supervisor refused to hand him the money and he hit her head twice until she fell down. He then grabbed RM2,500 before escaping on a motorcycle,” she said.

She added that her supervisor suffered minor injuries to her head, while she and other two workers were left unharmed.

> A seven-year-old pupil died after he was knocked down by his school van in front of his house in Shah Alam, Harian Metro reported.

Ahmad Damian Iqbaal Abdullah and his cousin had been dropped off in front of their house at about 6.45pm. It was believed that the boy removed his shoes and socks too near to the van.

When the driver tried to continue with his journey, he felt as though he had hit something. Upon checking, he saw the boy under the van.

Ahmad Damianwas rushed to Shah Alam Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The van driver has been remanded for three days.
