Prof Baldwin is NUMed CEO, provost
NEWCASTLE University Medicine Malaysia (NUMed) welcomed its new CEO and provost Prof Christopher Baldwin ( pic), on Sept 1.
Prof Baldwin was formerly the Head of Biomedical Sciences in Newcastle University in the United Kingdom.
He joined NUMed in 2015 as the Dean of Biomedical Sciences prior to his current appointment as CEO and provost.
He has a PhD in immunoparasitology and a Bachelor of Science in Applied Biology from North East London Polytechnic.
Among others, he possesses vast research experience with a special interest in the fields of immunopathology, which is the study of the process of tissue damage that may occur after an immune response and the study of immune responses to complex glycoproteins.
A man with a vision, Prof Baldwin has remarkable ideals of upholding the university’s current status as a civic institution.
He also looks forward to giving back to the communities surrounding the university by championing research that has local impact.
“I wish to develop our research so that it works for the people here in Malaysia. As such, our research at NUMed will be focused on those areas that affect people’s lives in the region and coming up with solutions to make things better.
“I very much look forward to working and continuing my time here as the CEO and provost, and welcoming new students to join us here at NUMed,” he added.
NUMed is the first international branch campus of Newcastle University.
The university offers foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the fields of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. These programmes are identical to the ones offered in Newcastle University, UK, and lead to the award of the same qualifications.
