Dance school stages Navathiri fest
THE Tanjai Kamalaa Indira Dance School successfully staged its 17th Annual Navarathiri Festival which ran for nine days in conjunction with the Hindu festival, Malaysia Nanban reported.
Navarathiri is celebrated to symbolise the victory of good over evil, with Goddess Durga defeating the demon Mahishahuran.
The event took place at the leading Indian traditional dance school’s hall in Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur, from Oct 10.
Dr Indira Manikam, who heads the school, said the festival was meant to honour the goddesses Malaimagal (Parvati), Alaimagal (Lakshmi) and Kalaimagal (Sarasvati) who are the consorts of the Trimurtis in the Hindu tradition.
> A man in Tamil Nadu, India, tried to burn himself in front of a government building, claiming his wife and lover were trying to kill him, Makkal Osai reported.
Murugan, 38, found out about his wife’s affair and told her to end it. The wife refused, roped in her lover and threatened to kill Murugan.
The husband lodged a police report but no action was reportedly taken. Murugan then turned up at the district office and demanded to see the district officer.
He poured kerosene over himself and set himself alight after failing to meet him. Policemen managed to save him from a fiery death.
