In our daily struggles, we visit the family supermarket because the prices are competitive. We try to take advantage of special sales and buy the cheaper dried noodles, convincing ourselves that all noodles are the same. We frequent our usual eating haunts because of the reasonable price and service. Don’t taxi drivers do the same? Are we not supposed to expect the same reasonable pricing and service for our money’s worth?

Most taxi drivers only have themselves to blame. For years, they had been giving us bad service and we were at their mercy. Now that we have a choice (e-hailing service), they feel threatened. Some can’t even respect our elderly PM, what more their passengers. – HM Tan We cannot afford to lose our great PM Tun Dr Mahathir because of a few disgruntled taxi drivers. Problems should be solved in an amicable and decent manner. Well said about the taxi drivers, Janq, “Quit complaining” (Views, Oct 23). This bunch of people have been making other people’s lives miserable. Being a taxi driver is still a good-paying job. Don’t be greedy; just live according to your means. – Aponi

Although the taxi industry is more regulated compared to the e-hailing service, taxi drivers must also understand that the poor service they provide is a central factor in consumers not choosing them. E-hailing is here to stay. Taxi drivers need to accept this and get on with their business.
