Wee: MCA members to decide on BN

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Party members will decide whether MCA will remain or leave Barisan Nasional, said party deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

Dr Wee, who is running for the party’s top post, said it was not his place to dictate the direction of the party.

“I make it very clear ... if I am elected as the president on Nov 4, I will set a time frame by Dec 2 and leave it to the central delegates to decide,” he told reporters at Parliament lobby yesterday.

The party will be holding its annual general assembly on Dec 2.

He was asked to comment on a recent remark by former Umno youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin that MCA would remain with Barisan Nasional.

“In my opinion, whatever decision is made by the party later, we have to follow,” said Dr Wee.

He said Khairy was not Umno’s president and he himself was not the president of MCA.

“So, it is not for me or for Khairy to talk about the future of these two parties.

“However, we work closely on various issues including the opposition’s alternative Budget.

“For example, we work closely on materials to be presented during the debates as we need proper coordination with one another,” he said.

“I am the only representative from MCA. I must get friends from the opposition to support my views,” he said.
