Tough draw for Malaysia’s Eain Yow in Qatar Classic

PETALING JAYA: National squash player Ng Eain Yow (pic) is fearless as he heads into the Qatar Classic in Doha this weekend.

The 20-year-old believes he is ready to cause some major upsets in the Classic which begins tomorrow.

The world No. 42 Eain Yow is set to go head-to-head against home favourite Abdulla Al Tamimi in the opening round.

Tamimi is a tough opponent as he was the star at the National Squash Centre in Bukit Jalil in July when he won the Malaysian Open title.

The world No. 24 showed his tireless determination as he survived three straight energy sapping fivegame matches from the quarter-final to the final in order to pick up his only title of the year so far.

And if Eain Yow overcomes him, he will have to contend with Egyptian Karim Abdel Gawad, who is ranked 10th in the world.

Even though placed in a difficult draw, Eain Yow is positive as he has it in him to defeat the two players.

“It’s a very tough draw, but I’m just looking at it one match at a time and I believe that I can create some upsets for sure,” said Eain Yow.

“I know Tamimi very well and I’ve seen how Nafiizwan Adnan has beaten him before. I’ll just have to stay disciplined and not make too many unforced errors.”

And Eain Yow is also eager to bounce back after a disappointing early exit in the Chicago Open last week.

Seeded fourth in the tournament, he fell early on in the quarter-finals to Egypt’s Mostafa Asal 7-11, 10-12, 8-11. It was after a tough battle against Spain’s Ikar Pajares in the first round in which he won 11-5, 12-10, 6-11, 12-10.

“I’m definitely disappointed but I had a tough first match and I couldn’t pull myself up after that match. And now it’s time for me to get back.”
