Seven held over ruckus at PKR elections

KUALA SELANGOR: Seven men have been detained by the police for being involved in a ruckus during the PKR branch elections in Tanjung Karang.

Kuala Selangor district OCPD Supt Mohd Asri Abd Wahab said the suspects, aged between 19 and 49, were arrested on Sunday.

“An altercatio­n occurred at 3.30pm between two groups supporting two candidates.

“Both sides threatened one another. However, no weapons were used and no serious injuries were reported.

“A total of four police reports were lodged by both sides.

“The arrests were made between 9pm and 10.30pm when the seven suspects surrendere­d themselves at the district police headquarte­rs,” Supt Mohd Asri said yesterday.

He said investigat­ions were being conducted under the Penal Code for rioting and criminal intimidati­on.

In another incident on Oct 21, seven people were arrested for allegedly trying to cheat in the Petaling Jaya Utara PKR division elections.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zani Che Din said they were released after posting bail.

Also on the same day, a minor commotion occurred in the Selayang division after some individual­s continued to campaign for their candidates even while they were inside the polling centre.

Meanwhile in Puchong, the Light Strike Force had to be called in to control a fight that took place between two groups.

In Gombak, members of two groups shouted and intimidate­d each other while waiting to vote.
