Man not only did not repay loan, assaults ex-girlfriend in public

-

A WOMAN in Sibu, Sarawak, was roughed up by her former boyfriend after she tried to recoup a RM29,000 loan given to him years ago, reported China Press.

The 30-year-old woman was slapped and choked by the man in his 30s before he shoved her to the ground.

He even tossed her handphone to the ground when she tried to call her family for help during the 10am incident on Saturday.

However, some passers-by intervened and managed to prevent the woman from being hurt further.

According to the daily, the woman had lent RM30,000 to the man, who promised to return the sum in RM1,000 monthly instalments. But he only serviced the loan once before giving her excuses for not paying up. The couple later broke up.

A police spokesman said the victim had been sent to hospital for a check-up, adding that they were investigating the case.

> The daily also quoted Deputy Education Minister Teo Nie Ching as saying that Chinese primary schools would be short of teachers next year.

She said although 270 teachers were expected to complete their training this year, 500 would be retiring at the same time.

“Where are we getting the teachers to fill the void?” she was quoted by the daily.

Teo said national primary schools would also be facing a similar issue next year, with a shortage of 3,000 teachers.

She said the ministry would resolve the problem by appointing temporary school teachers.

> Guang Ming Daily reported that the tombstone of Wong Ka Kui, the frontman of Hong Kong’s most beloved Cantorock band Beyond, had been vandalised with black marker pen.

Words written in Chinese characters like “dad and mum”, “sister and brother”, “I am back” and “Hangzhou” were scribbled on his gravestone.

Although some fans tried to clean the tombstone with detergent, it didn’t work but made it worse.

His younger brother Ka Keung hoped that the public would appreciate Ka Kui, adding that the tombstone was now the place “where he lived”.

“I believe that we also won’t want our living place to be damaged and vandalised,” he was quoted by the daily.

Ka Kui died at the age of 31 after a tragic accident while filming a skit for a Japanese comedy show in 1993.
