The Star Malaysia

Laudable finish by Malaysian drivers in Buriram

-

PETALING JAYA: Malaysian drivers Muizz Musyaffa and Alister Yoong put up strong numbers in Events 5 and 6 of the Formula 4 South East Asia (F4SEA) Championship at the Buriram International Circuit in Thailand.

After three races of 10-lap each in the two events, Alister Yoong finished fourth in both events with 32 championship points in Event 5 and another 41 points in Event 6. Muizz came in at fifth place in Event 5 with 31 points but he took it up a notch in the next event to finish at third place with 50 points.

Alister’s highlight of the weekend was when he found his way into second in the final race of Event 6, where he challenged the 2017 rookie champion Kane Shepherd of Thailand for the lead.

If it hadn’t been for a collision that damaged his wing, Alister would have ended up winning the final race.

Equally determined, Muizz also did well as he set the fastest lap in several sessions and finished ahead of French rider Alessandro Ghiretti in the final race. Ghiretti was the star of the two events as he won five out of the six races to top the ladder in both events over the last weekend.

He bossed his way to a convincing 80 points in Event 5 as Shepherd was in second with 54 points. Belgium rider Antoine Petty was in third with 39 points.

It was more of the same in Event 6, as Ghiretti won two out of three races to make it 63 points. Shepherd denied Ghiretti a perfect weekend and a sixth win as he managed to win the last race of the event as he ended up with another 54 points in the event.
