Deepavali cheer for kids with cerebral palsy

-

GEORGE TOWN: Their beaming faces showed what it meant to mark the Festival of Lights with the people that matter.

“There is no better satisfaction than to see the children losing themselves for a moment in the celebration and enjoying themselves with the visitors,” Persatuan Kebajikan Asas Pulau Pinang founder Alagesan Ayaru said.

The association organised an early Deepavali celebration for children of the Cerebral Palsy Children’s Association of Penang in Jalan Masjid Negeri recently.

They were entertained with songs and dances at the event.

The mission was to bring joy to the physically and mentally challenged kids during the Festival of Lights.

Cerebral Palsy Children’s Association of Penang president Ng Fook On said it was heartening to see the cheery faces of the children.

“Such celebrations go a long way to show that these children are a part of us and that we have not forgotten them,” said Ng in his speech at the event.

The celebration started off with the lighting of the kuthu vilakku (oil lamps) by Alagesan and Ng.

Some of the children sang along to the songs while others danced with their teachers and guests.

All were treated to a sumptuous lunch and the children received goodie bags and ang pow from Alagesan.
