Syariah-compliant attire for Sukma
Upcoming host Kelantan lobbying to impose rule on participants in sporting event
KOTA BARU: Kelantan, which is lobbying to host its maiden Sukma Games, will impose syariah-compliant sportswear on those taking part in the event, says a state exco member.
State Youth, Sports and NGO development committee chairman Wan Roslan Wan Hamat said the Kelantan mufti would be asked to help to draw up a dress code guideline.
“As the state government will be managing the MSN (state sports council) beginning next year, we will be in a better position to make the changes,” he said at the state assembly yesterday.
He said this in response to Azhar Salleh’s (PAS-Pulai Chondong) query whether the state government would drop certain types of sports, including aquatics, that required its participants to wear non-syariah compliant outfits.
Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob on Monday announced RM1mil in allocations for the MSN.
The federal government is in the final process of handing over Kelantan MSN to the state.
Azhar also hoped Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed (PH-Air Lanas) would help lobby for Kelantan to host Sukma, as it was the only state that had yet to host the Games.
On the negative influence from the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community, state Islamic Development committee chairman Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud said the government should banish them to uninhabited locations.
“That is what Prophet Muhammad did to stop them. When there are no people around, they would not be engaged in sinful activities,” he said.
Nassuruddin said people should take heed of the tragedy during the era of Prophet Lut where the town of Sodom inhabited by homosexuals was destroyed.
He claimed that Palu in Indonesia, which had a high gay population, was destroyed during the recent tsunami.
He said the LGBT community should be shunned, not celebrated.
On another matter, Deputy Mentri Besar Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said the state government agreed to give RM400,000 in allocations to the eight opposition assemblymen.
PAS assemblymen would get RM250,000 each, while opposition assemblymen would get RM50,000 each for minor development projects in their respective constituencies.
