JOHOR BARU: About 250,000 people who had applied for the Rumah Impian Bangsa Johor (RIBJ) affordable housing project last year will now need to submit their applications online again with additional details.

Johor state secretary Datuk Azmi Rohani said that the response for the two projects in Bandar Dato Onn and Bandar Baru Majidee has been overwhelming with some 350,000 people applying for homes when it was launched in 2017.

“After vetting through the applications, at least two-thirds of the initial applicants will need to go online and provide additional information, especially about their salaries.

“This process is now open until Nov 7 and we hope to announce some of the potential buyers by Nov 21,” he said.

Rumah Impian Bangsa Johor is priced between RM85,000 and RM100,000.

The project in Bandar Datuk Onn, which will be completed in 2020, features 488 units; the one in Majidee comprises 320 homes which will be ready by the end of next year.

“The vetting system will be stringent as we want only those who meet the criteria to be able to own these houses which come with washing machines and television sets,” he said at the launch of the Sultan Ibrahim Johor Foundation (YSIJ) office in Larkin here by Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim.

Tunku Ismail also launched the online application system for the RIBJ.

On Oct 21, Tunku Ismail kicked off a RIBJ project in Mersing, which will be completed in two years’ time.

Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar donated a 60.7ha land that would be used to build the Mersing homes.

These would include single-storey, double-storey, semi-detached houses, bungalows and shophouses.

Asked about people who might not be IT-savvy enough to submit their applications online, Azmi added that they could come to the (YSIJ) in Larkin to get help.

YSIJ in a statement reminded applicants to apply online and not appoint anyone or engage anyone with regard to the application process.

Applicants for RIBJ homes should check out the official website at https://sijf.my

Those found providing false information in their applications will be disqualified.
