Price control scheme sets in

But traders selling at even cheaper prices

-

KULIM: The Deepavali season’s price control scheme has been implemented with 16 items being sold at controlled or lower prices.

Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said his inspection of the Kulim public market here yesterday found that the people were aware of the scheme.

“Price tags are also being displayed at all the premises,” he noted.

“I saw a decrease in prices. Certain items are priced even lower than the ceiling price set.

“For instance, the wholesale price for fresh mutton under the scheme is RM44 and the retail price is RM47, but I saw it being sold at RM42 per kilo.

“Even so, I would like to take this opportunity to advise traders to comply with price control regulations throughout the duration of the scheme.

“Failure to do so will result in stern action being taken against them,” Saifuddin said after launching the scheme here yesterday.

He also urged consumers to lodge any complaints via e-mail to e-aduan@kpdnkk.gov.my or via WhatsApp at 019-2794317.

Live chicken, standard chicken, super chicken, local and imported bone-in mutton, imported bone-in lamb, chicken eggs, tomatoes, coconut, grated coconut, big onions, potatoes and lentils are among the items listed under the price control scheme.

Deepavali falls on Tuesday.
