UPM staff get top science awards
FIVE scientists and researchers from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) have been chosen to receive the Top Research Scientists Malaysia (TRSM) Awards 2018 while four more were selected as Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) fellows.
They received their awards from Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahahtir Mohamad at a ceremony on Thursday, said UPM in a statement.
The five scientists and researchers who received the TRSM are Prof Dr Abdul Rashid Mohamed Shariff and Assoc Prof Dr Aduwati Sali (both from the Faculty of Engineering); Prof Dr Ahmad Zaharin Aris (Faculty of Environmental Studies); Prof Dr Rozita Rosli (UPM - MAKNA Cancer Research Laboratory, Bioscience Institute) and Prof Dr Suraini Abd Aziz (Faculty of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Science).
There were 24 TRSM recipients this year. UPM was the second highest university among those who received the awards.
The four UPM lecturers chosen as ASM fellows are Prof Dr Mohd Adzir Mahdi from the Faculty of Engineering; Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Yazid Abd Manap (Halal Products Research Institute); Prof Dr Paridah Md Tahir (Institute of Tropical Foresty and Forest Products) and Prof Dr Mansor Ahmad (Faculty of Science).
The TRSM was developed as part of ASM’s focus on fostering a culture of excellence in science, technology and innovation in 2010.
Also present were ASM president and Universiti Sains Malaysia vice-chancellor Datuk Dr Asma Ismail and Deputy Energy, Technology, Science, Climate Change and Environment Minister Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis.
