Umie wants scripts with strong roles

Actress: Quality more important than salary

-

ACTRESS Datin Umie Aida is keen on television and film scripts featuring strong roles, especially ones that affect her emotionally, Berita Harian reported.

Umie, 45, who recently received the best actress award at Anugerah Skrin 2018 for her role in the hit horror film Dukun, said she did not mind doing small-budget films or dramas as long as the script was good.

“If I get a well-written script, I am open to discussing the budget. My sister Erma Fatima is a great scriptwriter. She knows how to create and develop a character.

“I’ve dedicated my life to acting. Considering my age, it gets tiring at times, but if I can get a good script and character like I did as Diana Dahlan in Dukun, it’s worth it,” she said.

Umie previously won the same Anugerah Skrin award in 2003 for her performance as the titular character in Embun.

> It may have been 11 years since they acted together in a famous advertisement, but the friendship between Marion Choong Sze Suan and Haziqah Pankirgani is still going strong, reported Metro.

They were featured in Petronas’ 2007 Independence Day advertisement when they were seven-year-old pupils of SK Bukit Bandaraya.

“I love watching the advertisement as it reminds me of how beautiful our bond is. The difference in our skin colour didn’t bother us.

“When I was transferred to another secondary school, we kept in touch,” said Choong, who is now 18 and pursuing her A-Levels at Methodist College Kuala Lumpur.

The advertisement was about how Haziqah would protect Choong if boys bullied her.

“It wasn’t acting for us. Marion loved it so much that I uploaded our old and current photos on my social media account to remind her that even though we are moving in different directions now, our friendship will get stronger,” said 18-year-old Haziqah, a student at the International Medical University.
