Cops seize drugs worth RM200,000 from car’s secret compartment

SHAH ALAM: Almost RM200,000 worth of ketamine, hidden in a secret compartment, was seized from a car at the parking lot of a condominium in Kajang.

A 40-year-old suspected trafficker was nabbed during the operation last Friday.

Selangor Narcotic Crime Investigation Department deputy chief Supt R. Sundralingam said the drugs were hidden in a secret compartment on the back seat, which required one to push a button to open it.

“We believe this is one of the methods used by drug syndicates to evade detection,” he told a press conference here yesterday.

Supt Sundralingam said some 3.9kg of ketamine with a street value of RM199,750 was found in a small pouch.

He said background checks showed that the suspect had a criminal record.

Two cars worth a total of RM166,000 along with other valuables were also seized, he added.

In another case, some RM243,500 worth of syabu, packed as a food parcel, was seized during routine checks at the KL International Airport cargo storage area on Monday.

“We arrested a 26-year-old Nigerian who claimed the parcel.

“The suspect has been remanded until next Monday,” he said.

In another operation, Supt Sundralingam said some RM36,000 worth of liquid ecstasy and ketamine, hidden in 22 bottles of Natsbee Honey Lemon, was seized following the arrest of a 26-year-old man in Puchong.

He said between January and October, a total of 16,752 suspects were arrested for drug-related offences in Selangor compared to 15,266 during the same period last year.
