Property developer donates RM90,000 to charity foundations
KLANG: Giving back to the community is an important aspect of Mitraland Group and this year, more donations were handed over to eight charitable organisations, totalling RM90,000.
Among the recipients were Star Foundation, the charitable arm of Star Media Group, which received RM10,000 during the launch of Lakepark at Gravit8 in South Klang.
Receiving the donation was Star Media Group corporate communication senior manager Siti Hajar Abdul Rahman.
“Over the years, we have been steadfast in giving back to the community and it gives us the greatest pleasure to continue this quest of being a responsible corporation,” said Mitraland chairman Datuk Johan Ariffin at the event.
Other recipients were the Lions Education Foundation, Kiwanis TTDI, Pertubuhan Al-Khaadem, The Edge Education Foundation, Berita Harian’s Suara Komuniti, Yayasan Sin Chew and Yayasan Nanyang (China Press).
The 3.2ha Lakepark features a pet-friendly 800m jogging track, fitness stations and a playground. The RM11mil man-made lake park aims to promote a healthy lifestyle among the Klang community.
“Besides being a retention pond, it is a space which promises to engage, inspire and bring the community of Klang together,” said Johan.
He said security in the park was a priority and they would ensure that the area was always brightly lit at night with guards patrolling the area.
Gravit8, which has an estimated gross development value of RM1.3bil, also comprises serviced apartments, retail stores, a boutique mall, a boutique hotel and offices.
Lakepark is built in partnership with the Klang Municipal Council (MPK), which welcomes developers or companies to adopt and beautify spaces in the royal town.
“This is the first-of-its-kind lake and park in Klang and we welcome other developers to follow in Mitraland’s footsteps and beautify other retention ponds or turn vacant spaces into a green recreational hub,” said MPK president Datuk Mohamad Yasid Bidin before launching the park.
So far, two other corporations have adopted two roundabouts in Klang and beautified these.
The two are the Bulatan Seratus roundabout, adopted by GM Klang Wholesale City, and Bulatan Berkeley, adopted by 99 Speedmart.
“Mitraland’s initiative in giving back to the community with this lake and park is in line with our aim to make Klang town a city within a park.
“We are also thankful to Mitraland, which will be maintaining the cleanliness and landscape of the park for five years,” Mohamad Yasid said.
