Putting the cart before the horse
I REFER to The Star dated Nov 11 (“PTPTN ‘sorry’ for backing out: Country’s debt situation made it impossible to keep promise”, quoting Wan Saiful Wan Jan, chairman of PTPTN).
It is indeed disheartening to read it from the horse’s mouth when Wan Saiful is a seasoned columnist of Thinking Liberally who posted constructive criticisms prior to shifting his career bearing to the New Malaysia team.
The admission of his failed execution of GE 14 manifesto on PTPTN is reflective of Wan Saiful putting the cart before the horse and failing to identify unsustainable practices, or was it just a “marketing slogan” in attracting fellow Malaysians?
Now, you have conceded the impracticability of this inexecutable manifesto, citing the national debt situation.
Mr Chairman, please get your bearings right. The repayment of PTPTN loans is clearly stipulated in the agreement between PTPTN and the borrowers, thus it is nothing short of the obligation and responsibility of the borrowers to make good on the borrowed amount.
I urge the chairman of PTPTN to be more pragmatic on the next approach and enforce the repayment by PTPTN borrowers. My two cents worth, “don’t lose sight of the forest for the trees”.
To all PTPTN borrowers who have benefited from the PTPTN loan during your university or college years, please initiate your obligation and responsibility, to ensure the funding is sustainable to help those in need.
