Bovine beauties come trotting out for pageant

-

TWO boys turned heads when they showed up with beautiful bovine contenders to a beauty pageant for cows in Kuala Terengganu.

Kosmo! reported that Syaher Fahuddin Mohd Saffian, nine, participated with his 16-month-old French Charolais cow, named Debek while Mohd Fazreel Harris Mohd Fadli, 12, came with his Belgium Blue cow, 12-month-old BB.

“Debek weighs about 400kg and has been with me for a year now. My dad bought him for RM9,000 when I told him I was interested in rearing big cows.

“Debek is very tame and is fed grass twice a day,” said Syaher Fahuddin.

BB was purchased for RM8,000 by Mohd Fazreel’s cattle farmer father. The cow now weighs 300kg.

Terengganu Veterinary Services Department director Dr Mohd Termizi Ghazali said that the inaugural cow beauty pageant received an overwhelming response.

All cows in the running were estimated to be worth over RM674,000, with the most expensive one priced at RM25,000, which was a European breed.

> The daily also reported that an owner of a house in Kampung Masjid Baru in Jasin, Melaka claimed that since a month ago his house has mysteriously been catching fire.

Mazlan Hashim, 40, said that the bizarre incidents took place up to six times a day at different parts of his house.

He said the first incident happened on the night of Oct 18 when the wardrobe in the master bed- room suddenly caught fire.

“My wife and daughter put out the fire in time,” he said, adding that another fire happened half an hour later the same day in another room at the edge of a mattress.

“The next day the same wardrobe caught fire again. Since then, the family has experienced almost daily fires around the house.

“Last Friday, we put out six fires,” he said, adding that this was the first time they experience such incidents since they moved in seven years ago.
