PETALING JAYA: The season is over for Petronas Sprinta Racing rider Adam Norrodin (pic).

The 20-year-old will miss the final round of the Moto3 world championship in Valencia, Spain, this weekend as he has to undergo surgery for a broken shoulder.

Adam gave a heroic show in front of his home crowd at the Shell Malaysia Motorcycle Grand Prix in Sepang last week where he stormed through the Moto3 field to finish in the top 10 after starting from the pit lane.

Adam admirably finished the race despite crashing on the penultimate lap but on his return to the box, it became apparent that he was in a lot of pain.

Adam dislocated his shoulder after a heavy crash at the Japanese Grand Prix in Motegi last month and has decided to undergo surgery at the Kuala Lumpur Sports Medicine Centre today where he will be attended to by Dr Saw Khay Yong.

Adam will also undergo a second surgery six weeks later to repair a left knee injury sustained in July.

Adam said that skipping what would be his last time racing in the Moto3 world championship was a difficult decision to make.

Adam, who chalked up two top10 finishes in the Moto3 this season, will compete in the Moto2 CEV Spanish Championship next year.

“So Sepang was my final race. It’s been a very difficult decision not to race in Valencia but in the end, I had to think about my future and the long-term effects of delaying the operation.

“I’m really sad to be ending my Moto3 career this way. I’ve really enjoyed my time with the team and I wanted to see them one last time and to finish on a high.

“After my race in Malaysia, I was feeling so motivated to go to Valencia but in the end, I had to think about my future to make sure that I’m physically prepared for it,” he said.

“Now my focus is on next year and competing in the Moto2 in the Spanish Championship, so I want to be 100% fit and ready to start this new chapter in 2019.

“I wish my team all the best for the Valencia race – I’ll be watching and supporting them from afar.”
