IPOH: A teacher went for a beach holiday in Songkhla, Thailand, but ended up being bitten and trampled by a horse.

Nur Aini Ruslan, 29, said she was riding a horse on Samila Beach when another horse ran amok on Nov 6.

“I heard some shouting and just as I was about to turn my head to see what was happening, a horse crashed into the one I was riding, causing us to fall.

“I landed face first. The rampaging horse bit me on my lower back and also trampled me,” she said.

“My clothes were shredded. All I could think of at the time was ‘This is it’,” she told reporters when met at a private hospital here yesterday.

Nur Aini, who teaches English and Science at SK Convent Sentul 1 in Kuala Lumpur, added that she was rushed to Songkhla Hospital but was only given outpatient treatment.

“I was also given jabs for tetanus and rabies and got my wound treated and dressed,” she said.

The horse ride operator paid for the medical bill, she said, adding that she flew back to Malaysia the next day and sought treatment here.

Nur Aini said she underwent an operation to remove blood clots from an internal injury near her spine.

“I am glad to be alive, but upset that the Thai hospital did not do more to help me.

“My injuries were quite serious but they just treated the wound and discharged me,” she said, advising those travelling abroad to always be careful.

Nur Aini, who is from Lenggong, said she was in Songkhla for a four-day trip with her colleagues during the Deepavali break.

“I get the chills whenever I think of the incident. I will never ride a horse again.

“I am also mulling legal action against the horse ride operator,” she added.
