Sinar Harian reported that the home of Marsidin Ruslan, 69, in Sabak Bernam, Selangor, was filled with plastic, papers, boxes and household items.

He said his movements were restricted after an accident when a parang hit his left knee when he was 19.

“I rely on my walking stick to move around but this is difficult. I have no income and I only live on the kindness of my siblings who live nearby,” he said.

Marsidin said the house which was left behind by his mother used to be in good condition until it was damaged when a coconut tree fell on it in 2007.

“But the house was never repaired as I lacked the funds,” he said, adding that the roof leaked and the walls were infested with termites.

His sister Siti Rodziah Ruslan, 51, hoped the authorities would step in to help her bachelor brother.

“My other siblings and I cannot afford much because we only earn just enough to survive,” she said.

> Singer Syamel said he had to lose 10kg to appear more confident, Harian Metro reported.

The celebrity, whose real name is Syameel Aqmal Mohd Fodzly, said he used to weigh 99kg but was now only 80kg.

“I have no intention to look muscular, but I want to lose weight so that I can look handsome and stylish when I wear all types of clothes.

“At the same time, when I achieve my ideal weight of 70kg, I will also be more confident in finding a girlfriend,” he said.

However, he said this did not imply that those who were larger in size do not have confidence.

“Skinny or larger in size is not a problem, it is a personal choice.”
