We’ll give the government more time to fulfil its promises, says Hindraf

PETALING JAYA: The Pakatan Harapan government should fulfil the promises it has made to the Indian community during GE14, says Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf 2.0) de facto leader P. Uthayakumar.

He added that it will be hard to gauge the response of the Indians if no strong effort is made by the gov- ernment to address issues affecting the community.

He said the movement e-mailed a list of Pakatan’s unfulfilled pledges to Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad yesterday to mark the 200th day of Pakatan coming to power after the May 9 polls.

Uthayakumar said there were several issues affecting the low- er-income Indian families, particularly those in the B75 category earning less than RM2,000 per month.

He also claimed that only 200 out of the 3,407 Indians aged 60 years old and above with red MyKad were awarded citizenship.

He said Pakatan should not pass the buck and blame Umno-aligned civil servants for being unable to fulfil pledges made to the Indian community.

“What we are now asking is for Pakatan to deliver its 25-point promises to the community under its manifesto,” he said yesterday.

“Some say the 100-day honeymoon period is over, but we should give Pakatan more time after 61 years of Barisan Nasional rule.

“From the feedback we got, some say we should give them one year. We will wait for the signal from the people as we cannot anticipate what will happen after a year,” he added.

Uthayakumar noted that coincidentally, yesterday was also the 11th anniversary of the Hindraf rally in 2007.
