Is there really a coup? I don’t think so, says Perak MB
Faizal insists he has a good working relationship with exco members
IPOH: Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu has dismissed talk of a coup against him, and insists that he has a good working relationship with all 10 of his state executive councillors.
“It’s one big happy family and all the exco members cooperate well with me,” Ahmad Faizal said.
He was responding to claims that certain exco members approached Umno assemblymen for support in an attempt to remove Ahmad Faizal as mentri besar via a motion of no-confidence in the state assembly.
Ahmad Faizal did not deny that there have been efforts to remove him. However, he said this did not happen.
“If some of them have stopped coming for meetings, then I can say something is brewing. But I have not seen that happening.
“We are intact as a government. Maybe in their hearts, some of them don’t agree with me. But that has not translated into any action,” he told reporters at the state assembly sitting here yesterday.
Perak opposition Leader Datuk Saarani Mohamad claimed there was a possibility that state elections may be held due to an impending vote of no confidence against Ahmad Faizal.
He claimed trouble was brewing among the state exco members from the Pakatan government.
On Tuesday, Saarani said he was willing to reveal the names of the exco members who approached Umno assemblymen to support their attempts to remove Ahmad Faizal.
On a statement by state DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming that a police report would be lodged over claims of an attempt to topple the Perak government, Ahmad Faizal said it was for the police to decide if an investigation was warranted.
In Kuala Lumpur, Pakatan Harapan secretariat chief and Batu Gajah MP V. Sivakumar lodged a police report on the alleged coup attempt.
He said those involved in attempting to topple the state government can face criminal prosecution, adding that it was an offence under Section 124 of the Penal Code to create incitement to topple a demo- cratically-elected government.
“We want the police to carry out a thorough investigation into the claims,” he told reporters at a press conference here.
Sivakumar lodged a report at the Dang Wangi police contingent headquarters after news of the allegations went viral.
“I have received numerous calls asking me if the claims were true. The police report is to ensure that the issue will not drag on and create problems and confusion among the people of Perak,” he said.
