Gobind thanks all for successful national day celebrations
KUALA LUMPUR: Various federal and state government agencies as well as media agencies, private sector companies and NGOs received tokens of appreciation from Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo for their roles in making the National Day and Malaysia Day 2018 celebrations a success.
Speaking at the event, he expressed the ministry’s thanks to everyone for making the national celebrations a success.
“I have been informed that two million people attended all the programmes held during the celebrations for Merdeka Month 2018,” he said last night.
Gobind said programmes held included flying the Jalur Gemilang and the launch of the Merdeka Month at George Town’s Padang Kota Lama, followed by the “Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang” between Aug 2 and 31.
Aside from the National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations at Putrajaya and Kota Kinabalu, the ministry’s Information Department also organised public speaking and decoration contests.
Graphic designer Nik Zulkifli Nik Hitam, 36, from Terengganu, was honoured for his logo, which was selected to feature in the Merdeka Month celebrations, following the theme “Sayangi Malaysiaku”.
“I created over 10 designs all incorporating the ‘Sayangi Malaysiaku’ theme,” he said.
Kampung Sepapar in Batu Pahat was one of the winners in the decoration competition, winning a prize for best decorated village.
The Setia Spice Convention Centre in Penang received a special award for its unique roof LED lighting, which was arranged in the form of the Jalur Gemilang.
It was received by the convention centre’s senior manager, Yeoh Kheng Ho.
Star Media Group Bhd was one of the media agencies honoured as a Strategic Media Partner, with chief content officer Esther Ng receiving a certificate of recognition on behalf of the company from the minister.
