Chronology of the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple riots
Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin released a timeline of the temple riots in his Parliament speech yesterday.
Monday, Nov 26
2.40am – Subang Jaya police receive complaints of disturbances at the temple. Policemen are deployed to the scene.
2.50am – Four police multipurpose vehicles (MPV) are prevented from entering the temple compound by a group of Indians. One MPV’s rear mirror is smashed. A tanker blocks the road leading to the temple.
3.30am – Subang Jaya OCPD calls Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) and Serdang police for back-up.
4am – Some 100 policemen from Serdang arrive at the temple.
A fight breaks out between a group of devotees and Malay men who have entered the temple. The devotees also set fire to several vehicles believed to belong to the trespassers.
4.38am – The Fire and Rescue Department receives a call about the burning vehicles. They arrive 25 minutes later.
5.30am – Some 200 FRU personnel arrive at the scene. Police bring the situation under control. Seven people are found injured in the fracas.
Tuesday, Nov 27
Early morning – Some 10,000 Indians start gathering around the temple. Apart from rioting, some of them also torch several vehicles.
Firemen putting out the fire are attacked. In the incident, Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim is beaten up by several unknown assailants. The fireman sustains serious injuries and is rushed to the hospital by bystanders.
Some rioters also go to One City Development Sdn Bhd and break the building’s glass walls. They also damage the equipment at the show gallery. Rioters torch several cars there.
