IGP: Police ready for new panel but with conditions
KUALA LUMPUR: The police are ready to accept the setting up of the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC), but with some conditions, said Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun.
The Inspector-General of Police said the setting up of the panel to replace the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) was the wish of the government.
“It can’t be avoided, but we are having discussions to make sure that the welfare of the force is taken into consideration.
“This includes the condition of having a police officer in the commission,” he said at a press conference at the Royal Malaysian Police College in Cheras yesterday.
Mohamad Fuzi attended the forum, “Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC): In the Direction of Excellence in Policing Service”, with senior police officers.
The IGP said that such a forum was important to help police officers understand the role of the IPCMC to explain it to their subordinates.
“We addressed their queries and doubts as well as listened to their objections and ideas,” he added.
Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced on Sept 22 that the IPCMC would replace the EAIC, and would act as an independent body to look into police complaints more holistically.
