No arrest made over S’wak school solar hybrid project

-

PUTRAJAYA: The investigation into the solar hybrid project in Sarawak rural schools has been prolonged after no arrest was made.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigators grilled former education minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid for hours yesterday but did not make any arrest.

Initially, Mahdzir was expected to be charged today but the MACC has postponed it.

Sources in MACC said the investigation needed more time before this could be wrapped up and brought to court.

Earlier, Mahdzir was seen arriving at the MACC headquarters at around 9am and did not emerge until 6.15pm.

It is the second time that he had been called up for questioning on the same issue, the first being Oct 17.

If charged, Mahdzir would be the third individual to be brought to court for the case.

Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, the wife of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, and her aide Datuk Rizal Mansor were charged separately at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on Nov 15 for corruption over the case.

Yesterday, a group led by Umno supreme council member Datuk Lokman Noor Adam had called off a plan to gather supporters outside the MACC headquarters as a show of solidarity with Mahdzir, who is party vice-president.

“I have been informed that he (Mahdzir) would not be detained. So, the gathering is cancelled,” Lokman said in a message to his supporters.
