Enter but no campaigning in schools, says Maszlee
KUALA LUMPUR: Members of the opposition can apply to the Education Ministry to enter schools but must comply with existing rules and regulations, said its minister Dr Maszlee Malik.
The rules include not campaigning in school grounds, he said.
“As stated (in the application letter), they are not allowed to campaign, bring flags and such,” he noted.
He pointed out that the opposition was not allowed to enter schools under the previous Barisan Nasional administration.
“In the new Malaysia, we allow them to enter as long as they follow our procedures.
“In fact, many of them have submitted applications and they were approved by us,” he said.
Dr Maszlee also denied ever having banned opposition leaders from entering school grounds.
He said an application from Umno’s Tanah Merah MP Datuk Seri Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz would be approved by his ministry soon.
“I have forwarded it to the relevant state education department for approval,” he added.
He said that PAS also submitted a similar application on Wednesday and it was approved.
He had earlier said the circular on politicians needing to obtain permission to enter school grounds would be reviewed on Nov 23.
