AirAsia X launches KL-Fukuoka flights
Airline to fly four times a week to its fifth destination in Japan from Feb 28
PETALING JAYA: AirAsia X will start direct flights from Kuala Lumpur to Fukuoka in Japan next year.
AirAsia X group head of commercial Barry Klipp said the airline will fly to Fukuoka four times a week, starting from Feb 28.
Klipp said Fukuoka will be AirAsia X’s fifth destination in Japan and its fourth route flying out from Kuala Lumpur.
“The launch of this exclusive direct new route will provide a welcome boost for tourism both here in Kuala Lumpur and in Fukuoka,” he said in a speech at the launch here yesterday.
Klipp said that with the addition of Fukuoka to the airline’s destinations, AirAsia X has strengthened its market position in Japan with additional capacity and choice.
“It will give local tourism and trade a much-needed boost through AirAsia X’s great value fares, which stimulate the demands of both business and leisure travels,” he added.
The launch fares will start at RM199 on standard seats and RM799 on the airline’s award-winning Premium Flatbeds.
Travellers can make their bookings on airasia.com starting today until Dec 9 for travels between Feb 28 and Oct 28, 2019.
Japan Ambassador to Malaysia Dr Makio Miyagawa, who was present at the launch, said the additional flights between Japan and Malaysia will be beneficial for both countries.
“It represents another (aspect of ) Malaysian-Japanese relationship and it serves as another tool to connect markets,” he said.
Dr Miyagawa said Malaysians will enjoy their travels to Fukuoka, a city which has both historical and modern attractions.
“The people are very open and energetic. Their behaviour are close to that of Malaysians.
“The food in Fukuoka is also very good, and there are hot springs near Fukuoka that are good,” he added.
He said Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was also a frequent visitor to Fukuoka.
“Dr Mahathir flies into Fukuoka quite often; you might be able to see him,” he quipped.
