End all hatred now!
The Seafield temple incident is one. Perkasa’s ‘Himpunan Jihad’ today is another. There’s just too much ill-feeling, and participants, especially their leaders, are warned against inciting racial tensions – by not only the Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong but
KUALA LUMPUR: Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has called on those attending today’s annual general meeting of Malay rights group Perkasa to respect the rule of law.
“I would like to remind both organisers and participants to assemble peacefully and to obey the law at all times.
“Avoid taking any action that can disturb public order and don’t issue any statement that can cause tension between the country’s various races,” he said in a statement yesterday.
He was commenting on the Malay rights group’s plan to hold a meeting called Himpunan Jihad Perkasa at a hotel in Jalan Raja Alang in Kampung Baru here today.
Muhyiddin said the police would be monitoring the assembly and that strict action would be taken against anyone found to have broken the law.
“Our country has just been through the incident at the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman temple, which has caused restlessness among the various races in Malaysia.
“So, all sides should not do things that will worsen the situation.
“I believe that Perkasa, as an NGO that has long been set up under a responsible leadership, will understand and respect the principles of the rule of law, the need to maintain harmony among the public as well as public order,” he said.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim said on Friday that the police had been informed by the group about the meeting.
“The gathering is only for members and will be confined to the hotel. However, we will monitor the situation and action will be taken if there is any element that goes against the law,” he said.
