PORT DICKSON: Suggestions flooded Port Dickson MP Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s Instagram account, just 20 minutes after he asked for ways to help keep the famous beaches clean.

The PKR president, who takes the opportunity to go for a morning jog along the beach whenever he visits his constituency, has also made it a point to pick up rubbish along the way.

“I am in the midst of formulating strategies to ensure the level of cleanliness along the beaches can be further improved.

“I welcome proposals from you if you have any,” he posted on Instagram after a routine jog and beach clean-up exercise.

Anwar said he had started the gotong-royong exercise to clean up the beaches since he was first nominated for the Port Dickson by-election.

Instagrammers were quick to respond to his call for suggestions.

Within 20 minutes, his post had received 1,400 likes.

A user named liz@abbas said that Anwar should not only focus on the beaches in Port Dickson but should also look at ways to keep the toilets in the resort town clean too.

“Not only PD beaches please. We need more clean toilets. Tq

our future PM,” she said.

Fellow Instagrammer Wayneeddriss proposed that more rubbish bins are placed along the beaches.

Local councils, he said, should also be made to clean the beaches more regularly.

Halimhamzahmikee said that increasing fines as well as more effective enforcement against litterbugs would serve as an effective deterrent in keeping the resort town clean.

“Enforcement needs to be more effective, fines increased... Japan and Singapore are good examples.

“We need to create awareness to keep the beaches clean and this can only be done through more effective enforcement,” he said.
