Eain Yow out to turn the form-books upside down

-

PETALING JAYA: Facing the possibility of an early elimination, national squash player Ng Eain Yow is determined to upset the odds when he plays in the Black Ball Squash Open in Cairo, Egypt,

The 20-year-old faces a daunting draw in the Platinum level tournament as he takes on world No. 27 Cameron Pilley from Australia in the opening round today.

Should the world No. 42 get past Pilley, he will take on either Finland’s Olli Tuominen or New Zealand’s Campbell Grayson in the second round.

But Eain Yow’s toughest test will be in the third round where he could face world No. 1 and reigning world champion Mohamed El Shorbagy of Egypt.

Despite the draw, Eain Yow remains positive that he has what it takes to mount a challenge. And his recent form is proof that he can do so.

At the Qatar Classic in October, he upset home favourite Abdulla Mohd Al Tamimi in the first round before pushing former world champion Karim Abdel Gawad of Egypt to a five-set thriller before losing.

At the Hong Kong Open two weeks ago, Eain Yow made it to the third round before he went down fighting to Egyptian world No. 10 Mohamed Abouelghar.

“Coming into this tournament, I feel like I’m still playing well, so hopefully I can get some good results here and cause some upsets,” said Eain Yow.

“I’m just focusing on my own squash and if I manage to play well, I’ll have a good chance of getting through the first round and maybe further.”

Starting the year ranked 54th in the world, the former world junior champion is looking to end his last tournament of the year in style and hopefully break into the top 40.

“It’s my last tournament, so I gwant to try and do well so I can break into the top 40 by next month, that’s the one thing I want to accomplish now.”
