Stay safe always, says Siti Hasmah

KUALA LUMPUR: Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali advised firefighters to be vigilant when carrying out their duties.

The Prime Minister’s wife was referring to the incident in which Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim was seriously injured when attacked during a riot at a temple in USJ 25, Subang Jaya, last Tuesday.

Dr Siti Hasmah visited the firefighter at the National Heart Institute (IJN) here yesterday.

Separately, Fire and Rescue Department director- general Datuk Muhammad Hamdan Wahid said Muhammad Adib no longer needed a life support machine for his heart.

However, he still needs a ventilator for his lungs.

“The doctor treating him told me that his heart is able to function on its own and IJN took him off the life support system at 11am on Monday.

“He is still categorised as being in critical, but stable condition,” Muhammad Hamdan said during a charity football match between Selangor JBPM and Road Malaysia Celebrity here yesterday.

The charity match was held as a sign of solidarity for Muhammad Adib and to collect funds to help the six firemen who drowned in Puchong last month.

Commenting on the temple issue, Muhammad Hamdan said police had recorded statements from eight firemen who were at the scene of the temple riot.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun had earlier stated that Muhammad Adib’s injuries were not due to a reversing fire truck hitting him. — Bernama
