Something fishy over lost Tabung money, MACC told

- By REMAR NORDIN newsdesk@thestar.com.my

JOHOR BARU: A group of Pakatan Harapan assemblymen lodged a report with the MACC over questionable transactions in the Tabung Akuan Amanah Sumbangan Kuota Bumiputra Negeri Johor.

The group, led by Senggarang assemblyman Khairuddin A. Rahim, claimed the transactions occurred when Barisan Nasional was in power.

They alleged the previous administration used money from the fund to finance programmes such as paid working trips to London.

Khairuddin alleged that the transactions were made through a travel agency prior to GE14.

“We want a more detailed probe from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission; the transactions were not clearly explained by the Barisan administration,” he said at the state MACC office here yesterday.

In Johor, for any unsold bumiputra residential or commercial units, developers can appeal to the state government for a release consent of the status of the properties to allow them to be sold to non-bumiputra.

For each released unit, an amount equivalent to 7.5% of the sale price is to be paid to the state government as a fee, which is put into the fund.

From 2013 until recently, a total of RM537mil had been collected.

Khairuddin alleged RM364mil was spent and over RM800,000 was used to finance the London trips.
