Report hails Sabah’s financial standing

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah’s financial standing for 2017 was good, according to the Auditor-General’s 2017 Series 2 Report.

According to the report, the State Consolidat­ed Fund rose by RM390.64mil or 16.2% to RM2.80bil in 2017, compared to RM2.41bil in 2016.

The fund also recorded a surplus of RM56.66mil in 2017, resulting in the accumulate­d balance rising to RM3.80bil or 1.5%.

“Revenue collection increased by RM444.44mil or 12.9% to RM3.89bil in 2017,” the report said, adding that operating expenditur­e rose by RM454.36mil or 13.5% to RM3.83bil that year.

Investment­s in fixed and state deposits amounted to RM2.51bil while investment­s in public corporatio­n and statutory bodies at the end of 2017 totalled RM6.58bil, the report said.

“The two investment­s accrued returns of RM112.67mil and RM140.43mil in interests and dividends respective­ly,” it said.

The report also stated that some 2,365 defects were found at the KL Sports City in Bukit Jalil between November last year and March this year.

The National Aquatic Centre had the most defects at 804, followed by Putra Stadium with 751.

The National Stadium had 623 defects, followed by the Hockey Stadium with 134 defects.

Repairs were done on 106 defects on the National Aquatic Centre, National Stadium and Putra Stadium between June and July this year while 286 defects were not yet rectified. — Bernama
