Malaysian Aviation Commission is unnecessary

I TOTALLY applaud the letter written by Capt Jaimie Rodriguez that was published in The Star yesterday under the heading “Losing out in aviation industry” (online at tinyurl. com/star-aviation).

I have written letters (that were not published) regarding the shoddy service provided by the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) to consumers. I have also filed two complaints with Mavcom regarding shoddy service from two local airlines that ended with an unsatisfactory result from Mavcom.

These letters of complaint along with several other complaints about Mavcom’s service were copied to the Transport Ministry but received no attention from the latter.

Mavcom is an outdated, ineffective entity that should be shut down immediately and effective authority handed back to the Transport Ministry or the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM), as suggested by another letter published in The Star on Nov 17 entitled “Case of too many regulators” submitted by an aviation industry veteran (tinyurl.com/star-regulate).

Setting up Mavcom when we already have two other agencies (the Transport Ministry and CAAM) is a case of too many cooks spoiling the soup.

The fact that suffering travellers have to pay a service fee just to keep the inefficient, incompetent Mavcom alive adds insult to injury.

Enough is enough!
