- By JOASH EE DE SILVA

KUALA LUMPUR: Defending champions Johor led by last year’s most valuable player Yeo Zi Ying will once again clash with Selangor in the girls’ final of the Maba-Milo 27th Lum Mun Chak Cup.

Zi Ying once again starred for the Southerners with 12 points and seven rebounds to hand Sabah a 77-42 beating in the semi-final of the Under-15 tournament at the Maba Stadium yesterday.

Koh Hui Ling and Giu Kai Xin were also on target and put up 17 points and 15 points respectively to top the scoreboard.

Johor looked the more dominant side with their disciplined defence inside the paint forcing 41 turnovers, leading to quick fast breaks.

Johor head coach Chau Tiam Hock said his players played according to their strategies and Zi Ying controlled the tempo of the match.

“If Zi Ying can get control of her nerves and emotions, she can control the tempo and speed of the game. She did just that today,” said Tiam Hock.

It was also her second time playing in this tournament and her experience showed.

He also gave praise to the rest of the players as they stuck to the game plan and played to their strengths.

“My players were fresh, and they kept to our strategies and orders. Once we kept our strong defence, we were able to find our offense on the fast break because U-15 is a very fast game, so whoever is the fastest has an advantage.”

SEMI-FINAL RESULTS
