IGP: Sufficient manpower to be deployed for gathering

KUALA LUMPUR: Sufficient police personnel will be deployed for Saturday’s anti-Icerd rally, says Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun.

Bukit Aman is discussing with other relevant agencies to ensure the rally is properly monitored and controlled.

“We are not planning any roadblocks, but there may be some traffic diversions on the day of the rally.

“We hope rally-goers will abide the law so that the event remains peaceful,” he told a press conference after witnessing the ceremony for the handing over of duties of the Bukit Aman Commercial Crimes Investigation Department director’s post yesterday.

Mohamad Fuzi said Deputy IGP Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim would also have meetings with other agencies in the coming days in connection with Saturday’s rally.

“Those involved in the rally must do everything they can to hold a peaceful gathering.

“Do not raise sensitive issues, such as the temple fracas. We hope that everyone will observe the rule of law during the rally,” he said.

Mohamad Fuzi said the police would ensure the safety and security of the public.

“We do not want any untoward incidents to occur. The police will be there to ensure the safety of the public is maintained.

“We will be prepared for any eventuality. We will monitor the situation to ensure public order is not threatened,” he said.

On the Human Rights Commission gathering also scheduled to be held at Padang Timur, Petaling Jaya, on Saturday, Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Mazlan Mansor said the police received the notice from the organisers and there was no problem with them having the event there.

“The Petaling Jaya City Council mayor has also approved the event,” he said.
