Bukit Aman seeking extradition for Jho Low and gang

KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman will request for fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho and four others in connection with the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) investigation to be extradited if they are located in other countries, says Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun.

The Inspector-General of Police said this after Low, also known as Jho Low, along with Tan Kim Loong@Eric, 1MDB business development director Tan Keng Chee@ Casey, 1MDB general counsel Loo Ai Swan@Jasmine, 1MDB executive director finance Geh Choh Heng@ Terence, were charged in absentia in the Sessions Court on Tuesday.

They faced a total of 13 charges, involving US$1.17bil (RM4.2bil) in losses, he said.

“All of them have fled the country. If they are identified in any country, we will request for their extradition through the Attorney General’s Chambers,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Mohamad Fuzi said the police would seek assistance from their counterparts overseas as well as Interpol in tracking down all five accused.

The IGP said the Commercial Crime Investigations Department had filed the charges in court after receiving consent from the AG’s Chambers.

On Tuesday, Jho Low was charged in absentia with seven charges involving 1MDB.

He was charged with four other individuals central to the 1MDB investigation.

A spokesman for Jho Low, through his attorneys, claimed that the latest charges were intended to create another false sense of security for the political loss by the Mahathir regime due to its failures to address current issues.
